Michael McVayADVISORY BOARD
Michael McVay is a senior level executive with more than 35 years experience in the manufacturing, healthcare, and insurance industries. Growing up with an agricultural background, he developed himself as an engineer - submitting two patent applications, before moving into a successful Executive Management sales and non-profit career. Throughout his professional life, he has increased sales, improved operations, and hired successful sales teams. His skills also include customer service, medical devices, strategic planning, public speaking, troubleshooting, marketing strategy, program management, medical imaging, healthcare information, and project management.
Currently, Michael is the Vice-President of Sales and Services with Southwest Medical Resources. During his three years in this position, he has grown total sales from $7.5 million to $12.1 million with capital equipment sales growing from $1.9 million to $4 million. Having overseen steep growth after replacing a lethargic sales group with a new, highly trained sales team, Michael set about building a nationwide service force. This included a mixture of strategic hires, outsourced service networks, launching an internship program, and an internal development program for existing staff. Outside of his main duties, Michael has secured funding from employees matched by employers for well digging in Africa.
In addition to his work with Southwest Medical Services, Michael is also the Founder and Project Manager of the non-profit organization SBRI. He founded the organization with two partners to design, develop and build water filtration and sustainable sanitation systems for third world regions. He has ensured SBRI focuses on countries such as Cambodia, China, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico and Uganda, which has led to half a dozen small scales sanitation systems and support given to communities for a further 70.
Before joining Southwest, Michael spent over a decade with AFLAC insurance as their Regional Sales Manager. He grew sales within AFLAC from $283,000 to $1.5 million within 2 years while recruiting and training 17 sales agents. In a decade's work with the company, he moved from Sales Agent to District Sales Coordinator then was promoted to Regional Sales Manager. After leaving AFLAC, he spent several years as Operations Manager for DBRS Medical Systems where he ran day-to-day operations, sales and marketing activities.
Prior to working with AFLAC, Michael held the position of Account Manager with 3M Company's Medical Imaging Systems Division. He grew sales within the division worth $1.9 million prior to the division being spun off as an independent company. The entity was later sold to Kodak where he stayed on as Account Manager and grew sales by $4.2 million while increasing capital equipment sales by 350%. Between Kodak and AFLAC, Michael oversaw PACS sales and supported 24 Account Executives for Marconi Medical Devices, one of the top 4 medical device companies in the world.
He began his career with General Electric as a Field Engineer in charge of building and maintaining CT scanners before being promoted to Installation Manager. In nearly two decades of work with GE he handled a $136 million backlog of work and 37 direct reports while cutting costs by $2.8 million. Michael took over the Irvine region of Southern California, at the time it was 9th out of 9 regions within the company, and he grew it to second place, which led GE to give him the Los Angeles region as well.
Michael McVay graduated DeVry University with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering. He has more recently gained an MBA from Pepperdine University. He has been named Top Engineer with General Electric and is the recipient of numerous sales and management awards across a number of companies. He also holds advisory roles with a school board and various mission outreach groups including the Frontier Force Christian Mission.
